More ladies now go for plantain fibre hair, as cost of human hair chokes while others reportedly rent wigs according to hair vendors
According to hair dealers, more women are choosing plantain fiber hair since real hair is too expensive, and some are renting wigs.
The mother of inventions is need. As the cost of beauty becomes unaffordable, that seems to be the best way to characterize the actions most women today take to look attractive.
For a few years now, the cost of living has clashed with the cost of fashion and lifestyle, particularly for women. From clothes, shoes, undergarments, among other things, their prices have seen continuous increase, women have only had to improvise and adopt other cheap alternatives. Economy Lifestyle discovered that one of these alternatives is the switch to plantain or banana fibre hair extension, as against the costly human hair extensions. Plantain hair extensions are made from fibres extracted from plantain or banana stems. They are softened and dyed in various colours.
Though certain elegant women, for example, would consent to wear plantains on their heads, human hair is not without question when compared to it despite the assertion that plantain or banana fiber hair extensions are organic and inexpensive
Some women's testimonies are included here.
Mrs. Gladys Douglas
"The majority of my wigs are made from plantain fiber hair extensions," she stated. I used to adore carrying human hair wigs, but because of the high exchange rate, they are now more expensive. To acquire high-quality human hair, you'll need at least N200,000, but I can buy a plantain fiber hair extension for N30,000 or a bit more. I had to reconsider. I was able to save money by choosing the latter option."The majority of my wigs are made from plantain fiber hair extensions," a salesperson stated. According to marketer Mrs. Judith Olamide, you will need up to N250,000 before you can purchase a 100% human hair extension. Some sellers will tell you that the hair they are selling is 100% human hair, but after a month of use, the hair starts to tangle from the tip. This is due to the fact that the majority of these hairs are mixed, meaning they are a combination of synthetic and human hair. I had no interest in banana fiber hair extensions when I first heard about them. I once saw a member of my church wearing it, and it was really beautiful. I purchased the hair extension in this manner. "Compared to human hair, it was much less expensive.”
Mrs. James Chukwuma, A retail seller of various hair extensions said that getting a high-quality human hair extension is expensive due to the continuous instability in the foreign exchange rate.“Seeing this, many hair vendors buy low-grade human hair that is mixed with synthetic hairs that accept heat and are advertised as a blend. With the high cost of goods and services experienced in Nigeria, most women can hardly afford human hair extensions.“Some hair vendors sell these hairs in pairs, say one bundle, for those wigging with synthetic hair and wanting to use the human hair for closure.“Many customers are now asking for the fiber hair extension.“Most of them claim it’s better compared to synthetic ones and cheaper compared to human hair.“I don’t buy quality human hair in bulk, and customers prefer using it for closures or frontals.Women will always improvise to save costs when it comes to anything, including luding fashion.”
Most hair extensions are made from various synthetic fibers like polyvinyl chloride, silicone, or polyester and are generally more affordable than human hair extensions.
Some women are now reportedly renting a wig instead of buying one, according to some hair vendors . i.e., as many as seven people can wear one wig in a week, assuming they all rented it for just one day, respectively.
The health implications of this awkward sharing method are what those in medical fields, particularly trichologists, will later tell. But the sad reality is that the economy threw up this ugly trend.
One human hair wig, depending on the brand, now costs above N50,000, as opposed to the N10,000 it was sold for a few years back.A wig seller in the Trade Fair Complex, Mrs. Celestina Animasahun, who spoke to Economy Lifestyle, said, “The price of a human hair wig, depending on the brand and length, is between N50,000 and N500,000.
There are the ones with a mixture of synthetic hairs and human hair extensions, which are sold for between N15,000 and N20,000.“But people who have knowledge in hair textures will know they are not the real deal.
What are your thoughts and opinions on this hike in the price of wigs, and how can this be effectively managed?
Do you advise women to completely do away with wigs and return back to the plaiting of their natural hair, or should they c
ontinue with the rent rental services?
